Puppy Mills and Cruelty
Through the Emergency Animal Rescue Service (EARS), UAN provides temporary sheltering for animals removed from puppy mills and situations of cruelty, neglect or hoarding. EARS volunteers have provided care, comfort and compassion for thousands of these animals, giving them a second chance at happy lives with loving families. For example, in August 2009, UAN cared for 550 dogs rescued from a Texas puppy mill. Most of the dogs were severely matted, suffering from infected wounds and parasites, and had never known life outside their wire cages. Watch the video below to see what life is like for a puppy mill dog. Then, find out how you can help put puppy mills out of business by opting to adopt.
